A secret to grow your career
A very early in my career, I felt that I was stuck and not growing from this point. It happened 3 times with me.
Every time I hit this wall, have only one solution that worked for me.
The solution is Delegation.
For me or even you, It’s very tempting to get all the things done on your own. It gives satisfaction at the end of the day.
Another reason, I was not delegating was to speed up the work.
When you delegate, you might end up delivering the task a little late as you depend on someone else to get it done.
But, see this as a long term goal instead of short term. Once I started seeing it that way, it became easier for me to delegate.
Here’s how delegation can benefit you
- It gives you the time to focus on new tasks to take on.
- It gives your teammates the ability to learn and develop new skills.
- It empowered your team to take new responsibility.
- It develops trust between you and your team.
- It improves your communication skills.
- It improves efficiency and productivity over time.
Eventually, you will keep on learning new skills and you can grow one step further in your career.
Moreover, please note that you are more accountable after you start delegating. If you are not skilled, you have to learn that.
You have to mentor your teammate to ensure quality work.
When you start, you have to review the work they are producing. You have to ensure that final delivery has the quality that you were producing earlier.
Delegating tasks is a skill that, like any other skill, can be learned and improved on overtime.
Delegating is not easy but the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll develop the expertise to do it effectively.
Don’t stop delegating, if you don’t see the expected result. It will take time to make things work as expected.
Be patient.
Keep delegating.
Keep learning.
Keep executing.
